On the 20th a successful FORTRAN program was run

On 20 September 1954 a team at led by John Backus ran the first successful FORTRAN program. FORTRAN, is short for for “FORmula TRANslator,” and was developed for programming the IBM 704 mainframe computer. It is a computer programming language that has been extensively used in scientific and engineering applications and is still in use today.
